Terrorism biggest challenge: Indian Commerce Minister

DALLAS: Indian Commerce Minister Anand Sharma claimed that terrorism and violence are the top challenges world is facing these days, where support and promotion of it can never result in peace. He was addressing the annual award banquet of Greater Dallas Indian American Chamber of Commerce.

He said that it is an acclaimed fact that China had phenomenal economic growth in the last couple of decades while India has also shown great progress.

Sharma claimed that Asian economy will be at par with Europe and America in the next two years where Indian economy is currently at number 5 in the world.

He said that India is a great democracy and with the strength of established institutions, it has given such a stature that American President Barack Obama has asked for India’s help to improve the economic conditions.

Ananad Sharma claimed that officially India is ranked 10th in gold reserves where by official statistics show 16,000 tons of gold, which is lesser than the actual gold volume.

The event was also addressed by Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, Indian Consulate General Houston Sanjeeve Arora, Chambers Chairman Raj Sharma and other noted personalities.

Earlier, the Dallas Mayor presented the city’s key to the minister and the Governor of Texas gave a certificate of appreciation.

The occasion was used to award individuals for their outstanding performances in various categories which was attended by business personalities, notables and elected officials including Dallas Mayor, County Commissioner, Texas house members and a number of members from North Texas business community.
