Pakistan launches new visa policy: visa fee waived for 126 countries

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Atta Tarar has announced the introduction of a new visa policy in celebration of Independence Day.

Effective from today at noon, the policy eliminates visa fees for citizens of 126 countries and streamlines the visa application process.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Minister Tarar highlighted the government’s commitment to facilitating international travel to Pakistan, drawing attention to the country’s stunning natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage. “Pakistan is blessed with abundant natural beauty,” he stated, expressing the nation’s ambition to attract tourists from all corners of the globe.

The new policy allows visitors from the 126 designated countries to apply for a 90-day visa by completing a simplified form with just 30 questions. The visa will be granted immediately upon submission, significantly cutting through the red tape and delays that have previously discouraged tourists.

Additionally, residents of Gulf countries will benefit from special provisions allowing them to receive visas on arrival simply by presenting their passports.

“The doors of Pakistan are now open to the world,” the minister declared, emphasizing that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance Pakistan’s global image and attract more international visitors.


Minister Tarar assured potential tourists that their safety and security are top priorities for the government. He noted that security agencies will be informed of tourist arrivals and that the Ministry of Interior is coordinating with provincial governments to ensure strong security measures are in place.

The minister also highlighted the notable growth in tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan, where efforts are underway to promote affordable and high-quality accommodations. This initiative is expected to further elevate the region’s status as a premier destination for both domestic and international travelers.

In a related announcement, Minister Tarar revealed that the federal cabinet will formally welcome Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s gold medalist at the Paris Olympics, at Noor Khan Air Base. He praised Nadeem’s historic achievement, calling it a significant milestone for the nation.

Drawing a comparison to Pakistan’s 1992 Cricket World Cup victory, Tarar remarked, “The honor brought by Arshad Nadeem surpasses that of the 1992 World Cup.” He added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had personally met Nadeem before his departure for Paris and will give him a grand welcome upon his return.

The minister also emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting athletes both before and after their achievements, noting that Arshad Nadeem himself acknowledged the backing provided by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, describing himself as “a plant nurtured by the Prime Minister.”
