LAHORE/HARIPUR: The number of Dengue cases continues to rise in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Geo News reported. On Saturday four patients lost their lives to the virus in Lahore while one patient died in Haripur district of KP.
The toll has risen to 32 in Lahore while in Punjab 35 patients have so far lost their lives after being hit by the Dengue virus.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a special meeting held to discuss ways to curb Dengue where he ordered private laboratories to fix blood test cost at Rs90. He warned that laboratories charging excess amount would be penalised.
As the virus is spreading across the country, long queues of patients are seen in and outside private and government hospitals waiting for blood screening. Hospital administration said that due to large number of patients visiting hospitals, they have to wait for their turns.
On the other hand, patients said the hospitals have limited resources for Dengue treatment despite government orders.
A team of experts from Sri Lanka visited different areas including Divisional Public School and collected water samples.
The medical expert team said all water samples are contaminated with mosquitoes breeding therefore it is crucial to improve the cleanliness situation in the city.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dengue virus has claimed five lives and according to the National Health Department 48 Dengue cases have been confirmed in the province.
