Karachi rain: Severe traffic jams across city

KARACHI: Heavy rain lashed the metropolis on Tuesday, Geo News reported. Areas which received heavy rain included Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e- Johar, Malir, Baldia Town, Nursery, Sher Shah and North Karachi.
The rain broke the hot spell which had griped the city for the past three days, but came with a cost. Severe traffic jams are being reported on major roads of the city including I.I. Chundrigar Road, Mai Kolachi, MA Jinnah road, University road, Punjab Colony and Shara-e-Faisal. Commuters have been stuck in these traffic jams for several hours and many vehicles have run out of petrol. Criminals have taken advantage of the traffic jams and widespread looting is being reported.
The Met office reports that 28 mm rain has been recorded in the airport area. Chief meteorologist Muhammed Riaz while speaking to Geo News said that this was a moderate spell and was expected to last till Wednesday.
