LAHORE: The electricity shortfall in the country has risen to 7,000 megawatts leading to nationwide loadshedding, Geo News reported. Punjab and Peshawar have been the worst hit by power outages.
The rolling blackouts have overwhelmed major cities of Punjab like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Kasur, Sialkot, Sahiwal, and Jhelum.
Officials pinned this outage on the National Center in Islamabad, which they say is directly shutting down grids, adding, they have no control over it.
Only Lahore Electric Supply Company’s (LESCO) shortfall has exceeded 1300 megawatts, whereas total national electricity deficit has reached 7,000 megawatts.
At least up to 14 hours of loadshedding has become the routine in Lahore, while elsewhere citizens are putting up with 18-20 hours without power.
Over in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa double-digit power outages are being experienced as residents complain that their lives have been severely impacted.
Pakistan’s economic hub was also not behind in the suffering and an increase in gas supply, Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) failed to keep its word and has been forcing 6-8-hr loadshedding on residents against a promised 3-6 hrs.
