Marine food exports top 10pc

ISLAMABAD: Export of fish and fish preparations increased by 10.10 percent during the first two months of the current fiscal year (2011-12) as compared to the exports of the same period of last year.

The exports of fish and fish preparations during July-August (2011-12) stood at $32.402 million as against the exports of $29.430 million during July-August (2010-11), According to Federal Bureau of Statistics data.

As much as 13,468 metric tons of seafood was exported during the period under review as against the exports of 12,068 metric tons last year, showing an increase of 11.60 in terms of quantity.

In terms of rupees, the seafood exports increased by 11.12 percent by increasing from Rs 2,518 million during last year to Rs 2,798 million this year, the data revealed.

The exports of fish and fish preparations during August 2011 witnessed surge of 20.76 percent when compared to the exports of the same month of last year.

Exports in August 2011 were recorded at $17.998 million as compared to the exports of $14.904 million during August 2010.

As compared to the exports of $14.404 million during July 2011, the exports in August 2011 increased by 24.95 percent.

The FBS data revealed that as much as 7,424 metric tons of fish and fish preparations were exported during August 2011 against the exports of 6,044 metric tons in July 2011 and 5,362 metric tons during August 2010, showing an increase of 22.83 over July 2011 and 38.43 percent over August last year in terms of quantity.
