UNITED NATIONS: US President Barak Obama said on Wednesday that Al-Qaeda was under pressure now more then ever. In a speech before the UN General Assembly, Obama said that Osama bin Laden was dead and with him the strategy to bring change through killing had also finished.
The US President declared that there would be no short cut to peace between Israel and the Palestinians, as he sought to head off a looming diplomatic crisis for the Middle East and US policy there.
"Peace will not come through statements and resolutions at the UN if it were that easy, it would have been accomplished by now," the president said. "Ultimately, it is Israelis and Palestinians who must live side by side. Ultimately, it is Israelis and Palestinians not us who must reach agreement on the issues that divide them."
US President Obama warned that North Korea and Iran would face greater international isolation if they failed to bring their nuclear programs under international law.
"There is a future of greater opportunity for the people of these nations if their governments meet their obligations. But if they continue down a path that is outside international law, they must be met with greater pressure and isolation," Obama said. "That is what our commitment to peace demands."
