SC dissatisfied with Sindh government’s flood report

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has expressed dissatisfaction over the report submitted by the Sindh government pertaining to the devastation caused by the floods, Geo News reported Thursday. The apex court has directed the provincial government to submit a comprehensive report on Monday.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the petition filed by Marvi Memon on the devastation caused by the floods in Sindh.

The lawyer for the Sindh government submitted the report of the irrigation department to the court. The court expressed dissatisfaction over this report and Chief Justice remarked that questions asked by the court were not answered.

According to the petition filed by Memon, flood affectees are not being provided relief and in Sanghar only Rs11 were given to each affectee. The lawyer for the government said that Rs20,000 per case has been announced to which the Chief Justice replied the amount was announced by the President and not the Sindh government.

The Chief Justice asked why recommendations of the flood commission were not implemented and why no action was taken against those who did not implement it.
