FREDERICKSBURG, VA, TOURIST ACCOMODATIONS (US ROUTE 1): Number 9 is the McGuire Hotel formerly located next to the Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site), 525 Princess Anne Street. During segregation, the McGuire Hotel was one of the only two hotels that catered to black patrons in the Fredericksburg, VA, area. The McGuire Hotel was owned by Dr. Webster Lee Harris, a local dentist and businessman. The Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site) bought the hotel after Dr. Harris died in 1973. The hotel was later demolished to make room for an addition to the church. The McGuire Hotel picture is from the Central Rappahannock Heritage Center collection. The picture of the billboard sign advertising the McGuire Hotel was taken in 1939 in Richmond, VA, where the sign was located. The picture is from an earlier Facebook post.
