LONDON: Spend just five seconds in front of a mirror and you should grab men's attention, new research suggests. Men are most drawn to a woman's lips over any other facial features, the Daily Mail reported.

According to research by Manchester University, if she's applied lipstick, then he will find it even more difficult to look away. A dash of pink lipstick will hold his attention for 6.7 seconds and red will keep him fixated for 7.3 seconds.

Dr Geoff Beattie, who led the research, told the Daily Mail, "The research suggests that red lips and perceived attractiveness are still inextricably linked, with red lipstick proving to be the most powerful attractor and significantly increasing visual fixation."

Manchester University carried out the research by tracking the eye moments of 50 men as they were presented with images of different women. The research concluded that if women wore lipstick, the men gazed at their lips for an average of seven seconds. Research further showed, he would spend just 0.95 seconds looking at their eyes and 0.85 seconds studying their hair.

The average bloke spends 54 per cent of the first ten seconds of a meeting with a new woman entranced by her pout, according to a study carried out by the University of Manchester.

Makeup increases men's attraction further, with lippy adding to blokes' fascination for women's lips.

Men spend 6.7 seconds of the first ten staring at women with pink lipstick, while red lippy attracted 7.3 seconds of the first ten, the study found.

More than 50 males took part in the facial fixation study.

They were hooked up to technology which tracked the exact movements of their eyes when they were presented with images of women for ten seconds.

Luscious pouts tend to attract more attention than thin-lipped ladies, with men focusing on full lips for around six out of the ten seconds.

When women wore no makeup, blokes' fixation was spread more evenly among all the facial features.

Men spent more time looking at the woman's eyes, followed by her nose, than her lips.

Dr Geoff Beattie, who headed the research, said: 'This study proves that lips represent one of the most sensual aspects of a woman’s body and play a critical role in human sexual attraction.

'Full and red lips combined deliver the perfect pout to achieve male fixation, but women who simply wear lipstick – regardless of their lip type – secure significantly greater levels of attraction than those who do not.'

The study could well be true, since Scarlett Johansson, who is known for her full lips, was recently voted GQ magazine's Babe of the Year.
